Enrico Fabris

* 5 October 1981 – Unknown

Enrico Fabris, born in Roana (Asiago), became the first Italian to win an Olympic medal in speed skating when he won the bronze medal on the 5000 m in 2006. Earlier the same year he became the first Italian to win the European Championships, and five days later he won the first Italian speed skating gold, when he won the Team Pursuit together with his teammates Matteo Anesi, Stefano Donagrandi and Ippolito Sanfratello.

Even five days later he completed his Olympic quest by winning the 1500 m, the first individual Italian speed skating gold, beating the US favorites - Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick. Fabris won the race due to his marvellous flat race (24.4 - 26.6 - 27.1 - 27.7). With one lap to go Davis still lead by 1.28 seconds, but he was 0.16 behind when he crossed the finishing line.

He is coached by former Italian speed skater Maurizio Marchetto.

Fabris works in the Italian Army to be able to do speed skating full time.

Highest rank on the Adelskalender: #3 (2005)
