Albertville is a town in France, in the Savoie département, in the French part of the Alps, with a population of approximately 20,000. It was the host of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games, and the speed skating track was built solely for this reason. It was opened in 1991, and the first international races held at the track were World Cup races this season. The speed skating races in Albertville the following year were the last outdoor speed skating races in the Olympic history. The track was one of the fastest lowland outdoor tracks, but unfortunately it was deconstructed after the Olympic Games.
